There is a lot to say about this race. I would leave out the negative comments because the organizer has apologized for everything that happened on race day and this race certainly have a lot of potential to be one of the top off road triathlons in the Western Cape.

The water temperature had a little bite at a mere 13 degrees. If not for wetsuits I don’t know what I would have done. The swim consisted of two laps and was over far to early because what came next would have me missing the cold water

The cycle leg: What can I say about this? We all knew with the amount of rain that the cape had that it was going to be muddy, but I could not have anticipated how much mud. We had a mud bath from start to finish. In the beginning I tried to keep me and my bike clean,but as the race progressed I didn’t care any more and just kept riding through every puddle and mud hole.

After such a mud bath at least the run route was dry. But we had no idea where to run to? All I knew is that we had to go up the mountain. At this stage I was really not keen heading up a mountain. Well they don’t call it the XMonster for no reason and we found out on the run route why.

As it was the first race of the season and with everything that happened I am happy with my 2nd place. It leaves room for improvement and at least I now know where my weaknesses are after winter training.
